Introduction
This guide describes the steps needed to connect the Silent Brick System to HPSS. This guide was tested with Silent Brick System Version 2.53.0.3 in combination with HPSS Version 9.3 Update 12.

Choose 'Library' -> 'Add'

Follow the wizard or choose the ‚Logical Drives‘-Tab in the library view in order to assign new drives to your library

Logical Drive Name Prefix: As desired

Number of Logical Drives: As desired

Tape emulation: IBM

Assign the needed number of Bricks

One Brick will be one Tape

iSCSI connection is available if your Silent Brick System is equipped with a 10GB / 1GB Network card

Follow the wizard or choose the ‚SAN Clients‘-tab in the library view in order to add a SAN Client to your library.

Client Name: Enter the name of your connecting host

Initiator Name: Enter the initiator name of your connecting host

Authentication: If desired

Connect iSCSI connection to your client
-
Make sure the iSCSI Transfer length on your HPSS machine is configured to a value matching the tape block size. Recommended: 256 KB - 1 MB

FibreChannel connection is only available if your Silent Brick System is equipped with a FibreChannel Card

Client Name: Enter the name of your connecting host

Target Port: Select the physical Fibre Channel Port.

Enumeration starts from right to left (Right: Port 0) (Left: Port 1).

Initiator WWN: Choose the WWN of your connected host

For iSCSI connections the Tape Blocksize must match the iSCSI Transfer Length set up in Step 3

Optimal tape blocksize: 1MB

Tapes have to be formatted after adjusting the tape blocksize

Run an "device_scan -i" and set up proper udev rules to link the tape drives to unique names by serial

Your Silent Brick System can now be addressed by HPSS.
