Introduction

This guide describes the necessary steps to setup up the Silent Brick System as a Veritas Backup Exec disk target.

This Guide was tested with Veritas Backup Exec Version 20.6 and Silent Brick Version 2.27

  1. Go to the SMB section of the user interface
    • Go to the SMB section of the user interface

    • A user matching the service user of the Backup Exec server is later on needed for the Share configuration. Depending on the Configuration...

    • Join the Silent Brick System to the active directory

    • Or create a local user account according to your backup exec user

  2. Switch to the Volumes section of the User Interface
    • Switch to the Volumes section of the User Interface

    • Create a new SNAS Volume

    • Type: SNAS

    • Protection: As desired

    • Compression: No

    • Case Sensitive: Yes

    • Optimize for Large Files: Yes

  3. Select your Volume and choose the "Shares" Tab
    • Select your Volume and choose the "Shares" Tab

    • Create a new share

    • Define a unique share name

    • Deactivate support for NTFS-ACLs

    • Uncheck "Public" and add the user created in Step 1 or the active directory user used by Backup Exec

  4. Choose to create a new disk based storage target Define a name for the new disk target Enter the UNC Path of the previously created share in the Silent Brick SNAS Volume
    • Choose to create a new disk based storage target

    • Define a name for the new disk target

    • Enter the UNC Path of the previously created share in the Silent Brick SNAS Volume
